If you’ve driven onto campus at the Alafaya / University entrance recently, you’ve probably seen the building under construction next to Parking Garage A. This new building will become UCF’s new Morgridge International Reading Center, and it is finally coming out of the ground. As you can see, masonry crews erected the CMU walls pretty quickly, and the structural steel work is now underway.
As mentioned in our previous update, the building is designed by Baker-Barrios and Wharton Smith is the general contractor. The 15,000-SF building will be completed in 2011. Check out a couple more photos below:

Construction crews recently removed a portion of the construction fence in front of UCF’s Rec & Wellness Center expansion. As you can see, the new lap pool has been filled with water, hardscape is underway, and landscaping is soon to be installed. Crews continue to work on the interior finishes in order to complete the project in time for the Spring 2011 semester.

After several months of sitework and underground utilities, UCF’s newest parking garage (Parking Garage “H”) is finally coming out of the ground. Prefabricated concrete pieces are being hoisted into place, starting with one of the stairwells as you can see above.
Here is a shot of one of the precast pieces arriving at the jobsite. There will be a steady stream of flatbeds carrying these pieces one-by-one to the jobsite as they are needed.
