Today is the first day of the Spring semester… and students are likely fighting for parking spots, wishing there was another garage to park in. They’ll have to wait a little bit longer to park in this one. Here are some updated photos of the construction progress on UCF’s newest parking garage, “H”.

Last May, Athletic Director Keith Tribble announced his plans for a 10-year, $70 Million expansion in athletics facilities. The Track and Soccer complex was identified as one of the top priorities for upgrades, and construction is now underway on the first phase of expansion. According to the athletics department:
The new stadium will contain a press box and public restroom building and will be clad with a red brick and stucco facade. When completed, the UCF Track and Soccer Complex will have a seating capacity of over 2,000.
According to the school, $972,000 will be spent on this first phase of upgrades. The second phase, a 7500-SF clubhouse with locker rooms, meeting space, and training rooms, is still in the works.
The first phase of construction will be complete in time for the UCF Invitational, March 25-26.

Not to be outdone by the expansion of the RWC, the Lake Claire recreation area is getting its own set of upgrades for the new year. The area is now fenced off and closed to the public, and crews were on site today working on the beginning stages of demolition and sitework.
New pavillions (heavy timber) will be built, along with 2 beach volleyball courts. A future phase will upgrade the boat house.
Wharton-Smith, who has done a lot of work on campus lately, is the General Contractor for this project. The project is projected to finish in April.

The Rec & Wellness Center expansion is set to open just over a month from now (January 10, 2011), just in time for the Spring semester. Work on the exterior seems to be nearly complete. Most noticeably since our last update, landscaping is complete and about 30 large palm trees now stand in front of the pool area. A post on the RWC’s Facebook page sums up the expansion nicely:
More cardio space, more weight space, an Outdoor Adventure Center, lap pool, circuit training area, racquetball courts, a Multi-Purpose activity court with plenty of seating for spectators, lots of LCD TV’s, more locker rooms, a new wet classroom and soooo much more! You guys are going to love it.
These photos of the exterior of the building were taken this afternoon. Check out the full size versions by clicking on the images, or check out our flickr page.

If you’ve driven onto campus at the Alafaya / University entrance recently, you’ve probably seen the building under construction next to Parking Garage A. This new building will become UCF’s new Morgridge International Reading Center, and it is finally coming out of the ground. As you can see, masonry crews erected the CMU walls pretty quickly, and the structural steel work is now underway.
As mentioned in our previous update, the building is designed by Baker-Barrios and Wharton Smith is the general contractor. The 15,000-SF building will be completed in 2011. Check out a couple more photos below:

Construction crews recently removed a portion of the construction fence in front of UCF’s Rec & Wellness Center expansion. As you can see, the new lap pool has been filled with water, hardscape is underway, and landscaping is soon to be installed. Crews continue to work on the interior finishes in order to complete the project in time for the Spring 2011 semester.
